The Schools Football initiative (SFi)

The Schools Football initiative (SFi) was created in 1993 for teachers, by teachers, to meet some of the authentic challenges that faced primary school football. The fundamental aim was to give primary school pupils the best possible introduction to the national game. For fifteen years, the SFi has been the UK's leading independent football programme in schools and, during this time, the popular fundraising event has helped schools raise over a million pounds for their funds.

Based on feedback from teachers and schools, the SFi has since been reshaped to meet the demands of current school agendas and is now primarily utilised as a curriculum enrichment activity. The activities provided are equally attractive to pupils, their parents and their teachers.

The ABC Challenge

The ABC Challenge was created in 2004 and is our contribution towards stopping the spread of physical illiteracy through the next generation. Too many young children are growing up today without the basic Attention, Balance and Coordination skills needed to enjoy being active and able to take part in sport successfully. It is vital that children from an early age experience the fun derived from being active and the feel good factor of overcoming physical challenges. The ABC Challenge involves all pupils in a series of individual and cooperative tasks that engage them in purposeful, fun and team building activities.

Initially following the SFi format, the ABC Challenge has recently been restructured to address some of the current demands placed upon UK primary schools and now operates as a curriculum enrichment activity.
